Kominka Koroku

Outline
The designer is the owner and plans to renovate a 100-year-old old private house and a warehouse in a rural area at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, and to plan an inn and sauna for rent. The name was taken from the name of the area, Koroku. While utilizing the existing structure, the insulation function was updated by filling in naturally occurring heat insulating materials and installing new triple-glazing. A waterway flows around the property, and a field on the property allows visitors to experience agriculture. There is also an attempt to encourage the use of vacant houses by having visitors stay overnight and experience the improved thermal performance.
