Father and Son's House

Outline
The project was to convert hanare, which the owner's father had built himself next to the main house, into a residence for the son's family. the existing structure was a complex mixture of wood and steel, so instead of dismantling the entire structure, we decided to leave the framework intact and cover it with a new exterior skin. while the new structure is the main structure, a small amount of vertical force is also applied to the existing structure, and by creating a small gap between the existing and the new structure, light and air are let in through the old columns, beams, and rafters through wide-open windows.
