Renovation of a 100-year-old machiya (townhouse) with a frontage of 5m and a depth of 17m, located in the center of Kyoto. While tracing the original arrangement of the rooms, a 175mm difference in level was newly created between the five living areas, including the garden, and the floor finish was changed. By opening up the new sliding doors, the five areas can be used as one continuous space.
