- The museum is housed in a former thermal power station on the Thames River. The huge turbine hall has been transformed into an entrance for an impressive installation. A new glass box has been placed on the roof to house a restaurant and other facilities, and the giant chimney in the center of the building remains a symbolic presence. The Millennium Bridge (2000), a Norman Foster-designed humanitarian bridge, provides a direct connection from St. Paul's on the other side of the river, creating a flow of people to the south bank. In 2016, the same architect added the "Switch House," a 10-story twisted tower on top of a former oil tank.
