Emscher Park

Outline
OMA is a project for the rehabilitation of an 800 km2 area along the Emscher River in the Ruhr region, which forms an industrial zone. The project was carried out through an international competition using the Emscherpark International Building Exhibition (IBA), and involved the restoration of green spaces and rivers, and the conversion of former factory facilities. Development continued in the 2000s and beyond, including the construction of a school designed by SANAA.
