- The museum stands on a mountaintop overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. The storage and exhibition rooms are stacked in response to the topography, based on the image of "the nature inside surrounded by the architecture and the architecture surrounded by the nature outside. Stones collected during the land preparation process are piled up on the exterior walls, blending in with the surrounding environment. Yamamoto, a Kagawa Prefecture official, pursued architecture rooted in the Seto Inland Sea, and later became a co-publisher of the Seto Inland Sea Architectural Charter (1979).
