- Father Lassalle, who decided to rebuild a Catholic church that had been destroyed by the atomic bombing and fire, appealed for the significance of constructing a cathedral to commemorate peace, and this project was realized. The fair-faced concrete frame is covered with concrete bricks made of river sand from Hiroshima, the site of the atomic bombing, and the rough joints give the building a unique shade. The rough joints give the cathedral a unique shade. The result is a religious space that combines Japanese and Romanesque characteristics.
