Chicago Tribune Tower Competition

Outline
The first international competition by a private firm (Chicago Tribune Company) after World War I. Architects' ideas for a skyscraper were presented to the public, and it was decided that a Gothic style was appropriate for the symbolic skyscraper of the 20th century. From left to right: John Howells + Raymond Hood's realized proposal (completed in 1925), Eliel Saarinen's proposal, Walter Gropius's proposal, and Adolf Loos's proposal.
