Tugendhat House

Outline
The combination of cross columns and non-bearing walls, which was also shown in the Barcelona Pavilion, is applied to housing. The spatial plan that changes the quality of space in each zone for the universal space after coming to the United States is called a zoned plan. The materials that define the space and give it a different quality are tactile materials such as striped agate walls, ebony bookshelves, and curtains made of fabric with soft folds. The interior was designed in collaboration with Lilly Reich. Because of its location on a slope overlooking the city of Brno, the large windows on the south elevation, with their open views, slide electrically down to the lower floor and can be fully opened.
