- Architecture showing the completion of prewar office buildings in Japan. American construction and construction management techniques, such as large machinery and suspended scaffolding, enabled the building to be completed in a short period of time. It was the largest building of its time and had a significant impact on the Japanese architectural world through its open shopping area and centralized elevator system. It became the keystone of the area known as "Itcho Cordage," where American-style office buildings are clustered. Kotaro Sakurai, who studied under Josiah Conder and Kingo Tatsuno, was the chief engineer.
