- In 2023, the pond in the courtyard was refurbished and filled in for use as a plaza, and a wisteria trellis was permanently installed in the new plaza to create a shaded area for resting. Non-standard lumber, including dismantled lumber, was digitized by 3D scanning, and machine-cut joints were developed and used in the structure. 46 pieces of 105 mm square or larger and 2 to 4.5 m in length were collected from five sites in the Kyoto and Nara areas during a four-month period from May to August 2023. Twenty-five pieces of disassembled wood and four pieces of new wood were used. Unique IDs and markers were attached to the lumber and managed in correspondence with the 3D scan data.
