KOKYO GAIEN NATIONAL GARDEN LIGHITING DESIGN
MOTOKO ISHII LIGHTING DESIGN
- Outline
- The lighting of the plaza, the stone wall, and the buildings along the moat was planned for the nighttime landscape of the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens. The lighting was planned to gradually darken from the Marunouchi and Otemachi areas to the Imperial Palace. The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) was the main contractor for the project, and the lighting was installed in consideration of the ecosystem of the Imperial Palace by avoiding lighting on the water surface of the moat, trees, and other biological habitats. The project was planned over three phases, coordinating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Chiyoda Ward, and the Imperial Household Agency on issues such as the use of roads and cultural properties. Ms. Mikiko Ishii was also in charge of the lighting plan for the Nippon Budokan (left photo).
