UNNOWA

Outline
This project is to renovate an old private house into a lodging and dining facility in Unno-juku, which was established in 1625 as an inn station on the Hokkoku Kaido highway. The four buildings, the main house, storehouse, silkworm room, and storeroom, which are about 100 years old and stand around a courtyard on a long and narrow site, have been renovated into an accommodation building, an entrance building that functions as the front desk of the accommodation facility, a restaurant building, and a resting building. The city of Tomi has purchased the site, which had been abandoned for many years, and is managing it. It is expected that this project will become a prototype for the renovation of minka (traditional Japanese houses) that have been abandoned in Unno-juku as well.
