SHIMA KITCHEN
RYO ABE / ARCHITECTS ATELIER RYO ABE
- Outline
- This facility was built on Teshima Island as one of the artworks to be exhibited at the Setouchi International Art Festival 2010 (1009), and has been in continuous operation since the end of the festival. An old vacant house and a storehouse were renovated to become a restaurant (kitchen) and a gallery, and a steel-framed sunshade roof was added to create a theater space. The main structural material of the sunshade roof is galvanized water pipes. The materials and construction method were chosen to enable efficient construction on the island, where resources are limited.
