Villa in Nakaoji

Outline: This is the first building in a plan to construct a cluster of detached lodging facilities within a forest spanning over 5,800 square meters in northern Okinawa. To preserve the forest environment, living quarters were arranged in a clearing created by thinning out only the minimum number of trees, and a long, narrow corridor—designed to wind through the trees in a single continuous line—was incorporated. The surrounding area is home to trees adapted to the monsoon climate, such as Japanese black pine and Ryukyu pine. The exterior walls are finished with a clear coating that takes on a wet-looking sheen, creating a finish that blends seamlessly with the site’s high-humidity environment.
