WOODSTOCK House Suginchi
Hiroki Tominaga+Yae Fujima
- Outline
- The 30-year-old residence of the designer's grandmother was renovated into a home and office. The existing walls were removed to create a one-room space, and a double-sided bookshelf in the center separates the office from the living space. The existing floor and foundation were partially demolished to create a new earthen floor. By lowering the floor level 462mm, part of the office and living room can be used as a library like a porch. The bookshelves are supported by the attic and serve as bearing walls. The lumber from the demolition was stored and reused for furniture, finishes, and firewood for building a fire in the garden.
