House in a Moss Garden
Mutsue Hayakusa/Cell Space Architects
- Outline
- A villa for a family of four built on a site where a moss garden has been maintained for many years. The footprint was made as small as possible so as not to damage the moss garden, and a regular hexagonal plan of 3.6m per side for the first floor and 5.08m per side for the second floor was placed between existing konara oak and quercus serrata trees. The axis connecting the center of the building and the trunks of the trees on the site was used to determine the position of the elevation and create a rhythm that responds to the grove. The color of the sashes was selected to match the color of the Quercus crispula trunks.
