Roofs in Horiike-cho

This is a house for an elderly couple in a residential area north of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The 4'5" gable roof, which is required by the landscape ordinance, is divided into two sections by a central top light. The west side is a one-story house with an entrance hall, a courtyard, and a living room, and the east side is a two-story house with bedrooms and private water rooms.
