KYOTO INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KYOTO DESIGN LAB

Outline
A facility for the KYOTO Design Lab (D-lab), an organization created for the purpose of exploring practical methodologies and interdisciplinary collaboration in architecture and design. An outdoor workshop space that also serves as an entrance canopy. The 6-meter-wide courtyard between the existing building and the new building is used as a common space between the two buildings, and is also necessary to meet the legal lighting requirements. The span of the pillars is 2.4m, which is small enough to reduce the diameter of the pillars and to flexibly respond to the deformed site.
