Outline
The city library was relocated due to the aging of the old library. The designer was selected through a proposal process. As a proposal unique to a place with an active forestry industry, the pillars of the general reading room are made of Nishikawa wood produced locally. Steel beams and the core of the two-story reinforced concrete wall structure are used to create an open space by placing the right materials in the right places. Polished Nishikawa wood log pillars in the general reading room are 400-500 mm in diameter, of which 60 mm is for the blazing edge.
