Outline
Due to the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Minamisoma City in Fukushima Prefecture was designated as a temporary evacuation zone until 2017. When the restrictions were lifted and the couple returned to live in the house, they renovated an existing one-story house that was too large for them to live in. By reducing the size of the water area and installing wooden glass fittings on the inside while keeping the existing pillars in place, the space that used to be a wide veranda and a Japanese-style room was turned into a veranda, creating a place for communication with the people of the city.
