House in Kibichuo-cho

Outline
Renovation of an old private house. After removing the additions made over the years and restoring the house to its original state, the flow lines and framework unique to a traditional Japanese house were utilized. The space, which tends to be dark, is given a moderate amount of light by adding a passing earthen floor and some glass tiles. In addition to reinforcing the structure and repainting the mud walls, the lattice door uses the existing lattice, but only the stile and rail are new, visually expressing the contrast between the old and new.
