IMPERIAL HOTEL KYOTO

Outline
The Yaei Kaikan, built in 1936 as one of the facilities within the Gion Koubu Uta Basho, was dismantled and expanded, with the exterior walls and frame partially retained, and renovated as a hotel. The site is designated in the Kyoto City Urban Planning as a Gion-cho Minami Historic Landscape Preservation and Beautification District and a 12-meter high district. After public deliberation by experts, a special exception was granted to allow a height of 31.5 meters, the same as the original Yaei Kaikan.
