- The theater was built in 1913 by Yasaka Jokenjo (now Yasaka Jokenjo Gakuen) and used as a factory for the Japanese Army during the war and by the Occupation Forces after the war, and was extensively renovated by Taisei Corporation in 1953. In 2001, the Opera and Dance Hall was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, and in 2018, a design-build proposal was held for the seismic retrofitting of the building while maintaining the exterior and interior, and the addition of an arts and crafts school.
