Sidewalk Toronto

Outline
A smart city construction project in Toronto's waterfront neighbourhood by Google's sister company Sidewalk Labs. Designed by Heatherwick and Snohetta, with a wood-frame design by Michael Green and a master plan by Beyer Blinder Bell, the project was designed to provide low-cost housing and expand commercial and community space, primarily in prefabricated wood-frame buildings. The plan called for efficient operation of infrastructure and mobility through the use of data, but the plan was withdrawn in 2020 due in part to a lack of consensus among citizens, including concerns about privacy violations in data collection (image from the conception).
