Kasugadai Center Center

Outline
A new community center with welfare functions (group home, in-home care facility, day service, and support for continuous employment) as its core, planned for the reconstruction of a supermarket that was about to close that had been the center of the community. Chie Kanano (t e c o ) and the Aikawa Shunjukai social welfare corporation played a central role in launching the "Aikawa Kurasu Labo" to discuss with residents and incorporate their opinions into the plan. The seven functions, including a laundromat and croquette stand that also serves as a labor support center, are divided into three buildings and arranged along Doma-dori. The large roof connects the different program spaces to the street, and the loggia extends over the existing promenade, creating a space that is shared by all parties, young and old, male and female, in the community. The result is a rich contemporary commons that transcends ownership and institutions.
