- The 42nd-47th St. redevelopment area "Bow Tie", bounded by Broadway and 7th Avenue, was converted into a pedestrian space. The elimination of curves and the installation of granite benches create a variety of walking speeds and behavior patterns. The project also renewed the above- and below-ground infrastructure, and went beyond mere aesthetic improvements to revitalize the area as a public space that encourages economic activity. The area, which was once congested with cars and pedestrians, was finally transformed into a permanent plaza through various studies, workshops, and social experiments.
