Structures of Landscape

Outline
A series of works for the Tippet Rise Art Center, a new arts venue for music and outdoor sculpture on the edge of the national park. 30 different buildings were planned, three of which will serve as shelters from the wind and rain and three of which will serve as performance spaces by 2021. These buildings return to their original elements to harmonize with nature. Tectonic processes such as sedimentation, erosion, weathering, crystallization, consolidation, and metamorphism are reinterpreted to nurture structures from the landscape. The model in which the concept is embodied is converted into 3D data for structural design. Based on the design, the earth is formed as a formwork for the structure, and concrete is poured. After curing, the structure is excavated and placed on the ground. They emerge from the landscape, giving it order, transforming material into habitable space, and becoming a new architectural assemblage in the rugged beauty of the earth that makes up the site.
