Gando Elementary School

- The elementary school (upper and lower left photos) was built with funds from the foundation that Keret established himself and with the cooperation of the local people. The main building material is clay brick, a mixture of clay and cement that is abundant in the region. The corrugated roof and ceiling are separated to prevent solar heat gain and ensure ventilation. The overhanging roof protects the structure from rain. In 2004, a housing complex with vaulted roofs was completed to accommodate teachers and their families from distant locations. 2008 saw the construction of a separate building with four classrooms (see middle photo below), and a semi-outdoor roofed space between classrooms with round benches like an outdoor theater. In 2012, a library with a top-lit pot made by a village woman was constructed at the location connecting the elementary school and the annex building (bottom right). The schoolyard is surrounded by the school buildings to protect it from dust and sand.
