Yoshio Taniguchi

- In 2004, Yoshio Taniguchi completed an addition to MoMA's permanent collection of contemporary art, the first major addition since its completion in 1939, following Philip Johnson in the 1950s and 1960s and Cesar Pelli in the 1980s. The main lobby connects 53rd and 54th Streets, with windows facing the streets throughout. The Sculpture Garden was renovated to restore Philip Johnson's design. The original façade by Philip Goodwin/Edward Durrell Stone (lower right center of photo) was preserved, and the history and traditions are carried on with the restrained expression of the new addition.
