Social Housing, Mulhouse
Lacaton & Vassal
- Outline
- Based on observations of highly efficient agricultural and industrial buildings and previous practice with detached houses, the designers planned a large, comfortable, open, and inexpensive public housing project. Each unit consists of two levels, with three rows of agricultural greenhouses equipped with automatic environmental controls on the first floor of the open concrete structure. The greenhouses' boundary surfaces create different environments in each unit, such as insulated living rooms and sunrooms.
