BedZED
Bill Dunster
- Outline
- A 100-unit apartment complex for sale, rent, and mixed-use housing. High-performance insulation, wind ventilation, and the use of recycled materials have resulted in significantly lower primary energy consumption than conventional housing (energy savings of about 90% for heating and about 25% for electricity). Materials and labor are available within 50 miles. On the other hand, some of the infrastructure did not function as expected, such as the quality and cost of wastewater treatment at recycling facilities, and lifestyle changes as well as technology were considered essential for zero carbon.
