The Eden Project
Nicholas Grimshaw
- Outline
- A complex facility for environmental symbiosis developed for the rehabilitation of a former mining site. Two "bi-romes", which are connected by several geodesic domes built along the topography, are covered with a multi-layered ETFE membrane to reproduce a tropical rainforest and Mediterranean environment. The system integrates automatic control of openings at the top and base, geothermal and bedrock heat storage, hot air supply, low-level air supply + high-level exhaust, mist and rainwater circulation, etc., and operates based on climate data to maintain an optimal environment for plant growth with minimum energy consumption, following seasonal changes.
