- In the midst of the current trends such as the performance regulations of the Building Standard Law and the emphasis on sustainable design, the "Housing and Aluminum Study Group" (1998, Chair: Toyo Ito) was established under the commission of the Aluminum Building Structure Council, and a prototype house using aluminum in its structure was studied. The prototype was based on the "Box House" series developed by Namba, using an aluminum frame structure with 3.6-meter grid modules, and aluminum insulation panels of different thicknesses were used for the exterior walls, roof, and floors. The building was constructed using the dry construction method in anticipation of disassembly and reuse. The feedback from the occupancy experiment was used for the aluminum "Box House 83" (2004).
