- The then-unknown FOA won an international design competition from among 660 entries from 41 countries. The computer-aided design created a dynamic form in which floors, ceilings, and walls are seamlessly connected. The undulating curved surfaces are not supported by columns and beams, but by a structure that smoothly connects from the top to the foundation to transmit forces. In the competition phase, the structure was conceived as a cardboard-like structure consisting of steel plates folded in a wavy pattern and sandwiched between steel plates from both sides (top left on page right). The roof, which undulates for more than 400 m and consists of a wooden deck and grassy area, is nicknamed "Whale's Senaka" and has become a place of relaxation for citizens and tourists.
