- A dome with a three-dimensional truss roof constructed with 5,602 thinned cedar trusses and 1,455 contact globes, with the cooperation of a local forestry cooperative and a construction company. The dome is a pioneering project in terms of both the use of local timber and large wooden spaces, and the use of computerized structural analysis led to later parametric form-finding. By bending the entire roof barrel vault, high sidelights and light from four sides illuminate the delicate three-dimensional trusses. This is the first large-scale wooden building in Japan with a total floor area of over 3,000 m2.
