- The Paris renovation project led by French President François Mitterrand to commemorate the bicentennial of the French Revolution. The plan combined cultural policy and architecture, and resulted in monumental projects such as the Musée d'Orsay (1986, designed by Gae Aulenti, top middle), the renovation of the Louvre (1989, pyramid designed by I.M. Pei, bottom middle), the Grand Arche (1989, designed by Johan Otto von Spreckelsen + Paul Andreu, right), and La Villette Park (opened in 1987). (right) and La Villette Park (opened in 1987), among other monumental projects that redefined the urban scale of the structure.
