- A plan to transform the vast site of a former meat market into a 21st century urban park. An international competition was held as part of the Parisian urban renewal policy Grand-Projet. Arata Isozaki was a member of the jury. The winning proposal, Cumi, superimposes three autonomous systems of points, lines, and planes to form the entire park, and arranges red pavilions on a grid that has a unique form independent of its use. He argued that in the modern city, no causal relationship can be established between architectural form, program, function, and socioeconomic conditions. The park opened in 1987.
