Robin Hood Gardens

Outline
A public housing complex in east London, two long buildings were arranged to hug the site, creating an expression of brutalism through the use of rough concrete. A central green space with a small hill and "streetsinthesky" exterior passageways on each of the three levels were intended to encourage interaction and improve the quality of life for the residents. However, the buildings fell into disrepair due to early damage to property and administrative neglect, and in 2008, the decision was made to demolish them in conjunction with a redevelopment plan.
