Matsukawa Box

Outline
One of Miyawaki's "Box" series, which uses simple geometric forms, this mixed structure consists of a wooden frame within an RC box, with the main building and detached house in the first phase (1971) and the residence and gallery in the second phase (1978) completing a composition that encloses the courtyard on three sides. By lowering the floor level of each building as much as possible, the courtyard is incorporated into the architecture as an exterior room.
