Pruitt-Igoe

Outline
A large apartment complex with 33 11-story high-rise residential buildings. It was constructed by demolishing a slum in St. Louis City. The functionalist plan seemed to embody the ideals of modernism, but after being plagued by rampant vandalism and a high crime rate, it was blown up at 3:32 p.m. on July 15, 1972.
