- This urban plan is based on the "Hiroshima Peace Park Plan" by Kenzo Tange published in 1950. The plan created an "axis of peace" on an urban scale, centering on the Atomic Bomb Dome and connecting the Cenotaph, Peace Memorial Exhibition Hall (opened in 1955, now the main building of the Hiroshima Peace Museum), Hiroshima Castle, and Peace Memorial Park. The display hall is raised by a pilotis, and the adjacent Peace Hall main building (reconstructed in 1994, now the east wing of the museum) uses a delicate post-and-beam structure. In 2004, the Hiroshima City Environment Bureau's Naka Plant (designed by Yoshio Taniguchi) was placed on the "axis of peace.
