- Since being selected in a competition in 1915, Asplund and Lewerentz have collaborated on the public "Forest Cemetery," and in 1936 the city commissioned Asplund to design its core facility, the Forest Crematorium (consisting of three chapels and a monument hall). The design integrated materials such as stone, ceramics, wood, glass, and metal, a variety of architectural languages, and the natural environment. The design is user-friendly and embodies the belief of "enriching society" and the Scandinavian view of life and death.
