Douaumont Ossuary

- It was planned as a sacred place to commemorate the 300,000 unidentified soldiers who died in the Battle of Verdun in 1916. The 137-meter-long ossuary corridor contains 22 hollows and the graves of 130,000 soldiers. The huge pedestals at each end of the corridor are lit with flames in memory of important days and ceremonies of the past.
