- During his tenure as head of Frankfurt's construction bureau, the architect Mai built 12,000 housing units. His guidelines were published in the journal "New Frankfurt". The "Frankfurt Kitchen," designed by the female architect Lihotsky, was designed to streamline the work of housework, with cupboards for sorting and storing food. The idea of the system kitchen had a great impact on housing in the 20th century, but was later criticized by sociologists as well.
