Meiji Seimei Kan

Outline
The headquarters office of an insurance company, which is considered the achievement of stylistic architecture, was created by the reconstruction of the Mitsubishi Nigo-kan building at the end of Babasaki-dori Avenue. Okada's mastery of Japanese classicism is evident in the good proportions of the Corinthian order. Although confiscated by GHQ after the war, the building was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1997, the first Showa-era building to be so designated. 2005 saw the completion of the redevelopment of the city block, and the Meiji Seimei Kan was reopened as the Meiji Seimei Kan. The Meiji Seimei Kan has been undergoing conservation and rehabilitation work, and efforts are underway to preserve and continue its use.
