The building was constructed in the 18th century by nicolas le camus de mézières and used as a grain exchange, and in the 19th century, architect henri blondel designed the building and rebuilt it into a commodity exchange, leaving part of the building intact. this time, tadao ando renovated the building into a contemporary art museum exhibiting the collection of françois pinault, with whom he had collaborated for many years. the newly constructed concrete cylinder is approximately 29 meters in diameter and 9 meters high.
