- The library building and the lecture building were constructed on the existing campus of Akita International University in the suburbs of Akita City. Using different structures, each has a reinforced concrete frame and a wooden roof made of Akita cedar. The Great Hall of the library is an umbrella structure consisting of steel firendale and radiating diagonal columns of 300 mm diameter cedar logs bundled with steel frames in the center of the hall. The Great Hall has a semicircular plan with a tiered floor and various spaces such as a reading space under the tier. The lecture hall in the lecture building is roofed with three-dimensional wooden trusses.
