- This elementary school stands on a site sandwiched between mountains and a river in Ashikita Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. Ashikita is a town that can stably secure high-quality lumber, and this elementary school also uses a lot of locally produced solid cedar and cypress wood. In the regular classroom building and the special classroom building, cedar logs with a diameter of 450 mm and a length of 10 m are used for the through pillars, and the beams are made of solid wood assembled in the shape of lattice trusses to eliminate bracing. The multi-purpose hall has a dome-shaped roof made of trussed cedar wood.
