House in Big Trees Garden
Toshihito Yokouchi Architect and Associates
- Outline
- A two-family home built on a flagpole-shaped lot in a residential area. On the north side of the lot stand three Japanese white oak trees, each over 20 meters tall and more than 200 years old; the building volume was positioned toward the south to avoid them. Since the north garden is shaded by the building and the giant trees, shade-tolerant plants such as Japanese anemone, Japanese buttercup, and hydrangeas were planted there.
